keeping them afloat

the delicate tea cups sit on a shelf

dreaming delightful thoughts of being filled

waiting upon the day to soak in their sweet promises

 

one by one, year after year

the cups crash unto the floor

shattering into hundreds of pieces

leaving an unrecognizable pattern on the floor

too tired and distraught to sweep up the fragments

a graveyard of wishes for me to mourn

 

the last cup sits upon the shelf

teetering

and all i can do is hold my breath

whispering a silent prayer that this one will remain.

My graveyard of regrets overflows with markers

The place I would go to bury my unfulfilled hope and dreams

They lie entombed, not as a result of lack of effort or desire

But due to circumstances beyond my control

 

I don’t like to visit this dreadful space – yet it remains outside my front door

So I have made a plan to transform this place

Planting colorful flowers on each grave

With a prayer that each unfulfilled wish

Will create a place much more beautiful than before.

searching a dense forest,

no sunlight can reach me,

its vastness surrounds me and I cannot find my way,

I whisper his name…..

and all I can hear is my own voice calling back to me…….saying

……..where are you?

in the darkness of night………they flash with passion

their brilliance shining…….lighting up their little part of the world

others looking on with amazement, joy and splendor

 

I dream of a world where small lights of kindness continually illuminate the darkness

bringing hope and happiness to others

the drums are beating…………i hear them from afar and they draw me in.

as i walk i try to hide myself from its pull

the beats, like my heart, give life to all that is around it

i creep closer……….the drum is under the open sky

i search for people………no one is there,

the drum is beating on its own

calling out to those who need to hear it, it draws us in……….

people begin encircling the drum from all directions- walking out of the darkness

searching for their own beating heart
