Raising a family of 6 on a budget, I understand the stress that Christmas can create, a time when we feel the urge to overdo everything: gifts, parties, meals, and decorations. Of course, all of these activities and preparations cost money and can distract everyone from the real reason for the season.

My question for you this week is a simple one. Although I try to keep things upbeat, I have learned that one of the ways to heal to the best of our ability is to accept the present situation and go from there.
So, my question for you today is, If you were given the chance to do ONE THING that you are no longer are able to do, what would it be, and have you found a suitable replacement?
I know for many of us, how we can spend our perfect day may have changed over the years. Even if the activities that we can participate in have changed, we can still enjoy OUR lives to the fullest, especially when we are having a good day! So my friends, my question for you this week is, “Describe how you would spend your perfect day?”

The book I am happily reviewing today is, Sir Chocolate and Fondant Five story and cookbook written by Robbie and Michael Cheadle. This book was sent to me free of charge, but the review is completely my own.
As I was reviewing the book, I could easily visualize myself reading it to my children when they were younger. One of my greatest joys has always been to read daily to my kiddos and something I continue to do with my two youngest. Although this book is for younger children then my own, this is one that my kids would have thoughly enjoyed.
Each page of the book has a colorful photo with animals created out of fondant, which I found to make the photos all the more impressive. The rhyming story has a nice flow that draws children in, much like a Dr. Suess book. At the end of the book there are recipes that you can create with your children which would have been a huge hit in my household. In fact, if I was purchasing this book to read to my kids, I would pick a recipe at the back before reading the book and then surprise them with baking session at the end.
What immediately struck me after I finished reading Sir Chocolate was how it could be used as a stepping stone for further learning activities. While your kids are waiting for the goodies to bake, you could get out playdough, or make some yourself, and have them try to create some of the animals they saw on the pages of the book. Hey, if you are really brave, you can try to create animals out of fondant just like the photos and even learn about how fondant is used. You could also have your children choose their favoritie animal that appeared on one of the pages of the book and spend some time learning about it.
This book is a big win for parents with children around 10 and under, but I am sure my teens will enjoy making the recipes.
~ please note this book was written in the UK so the recipes are written using the metric system. So hey, you are in the US you are also getting a math lesson with your kiddos! Bonus. 🙂
Worrying is such a awfully powerful emotion. Many of us within the chronic illness community live daily with a heap of things to worry about. Our health, our finances, our family’s health, a new symptom, our new normal, fear of losing more, the state of the world, decisions on treatments, how to manage all that is required of us, and on many days, how and the heck we are just going to make it until we get to go to bed again.
It sucks. It is not good for our bodies, minds or souls to experience continuous worry and anxiety with only brief moments of quiet and calm. Even if you do not live with constant worry, it has a ability to sneek up on you when you least expect it. You may be living in the moment, consumed with what appears to be happy thoughts and BOOM, you are hit so intensely that you feel as it any moment the anxiety is literally going to take over every cell in your body and bring you to your knees.
I know we all strive to live a worry free life, to be set free from our own thoughts, to be able to live outside of our deeply wired beliefs and messages. It’s hard, especially if you have been living this way for a long time.
So my question for you this week is, “What do you do to refocus your thoughts toward peaceful and calming energy, and removing worry from your mind?”
