Change, such a small word with so many connotations, and a word that those of us with chronic illness can relate to on many levels.  Yes, change is a part of life no matter who you are, and lately all of us have been going through at least some minimal changes in our daily lives.

 

My question for you this week is, “What is one way that your life has changed since the pandemic started and has this change had a positive or negative impact on your living situation?”

As many of us around the world are in isolation, it feels very surreal to me.  Even though I spend more time at home then most people, it still feels odd not to be able to freely move around my little neck-of-the-woods when I am able.

Thank goodness for the ability to connect with others through our beloved wifi.  It is such a blessing to still feel close to those we are not able to spend time with.

But, I have to admit, I have always enjoyed receiving a real letter in the mail.  There is something special knowing that someone took the time and energy to sit down and write out a note just for you.

So, if you feel this way too, please let me know.  I would be thrilled to send you a letter, even if you live on the other side of the world.  I don’t want people feeling isolated from real contact.  I know a letter is not real contact but I feel it is a bit more personal than a text or a response on a post.

With all the stressful things going on around the world, it takes a huge toll on our minds and therefore our bodies.  Those of us who live with chronic illnesses have very legitimate reasons to be concerned.  But instead on dwelling on the scary, we are going to focus on one postive thing we can do today to bring about contentment, joy, relaxation, or any feeling that is the opposite from the ball of stress you may have rolling around inside you.

So, my question for today is, “What is one thing you can do this very day to allow yourself to feel at ease in the world, even for a little while?”

living our best lives – pets

I am a firm believer that my furry friends, both past and present, have enriched my life in numerous ways.  Some of my very best memories include time I have spent with my pet buddies.

I was raised with animals.  My family had pets in the house as long as I can remember;  cats, dogs, a rescued racoon, duck hatchlings, a rabbit, a snake, fish, gerbils, and guinea pigs.  As I grew older and began raising a family of my own, I have also chosen to share my home with rescued dogs and cats.  As many people who rescue animals know, it is really you who is being rescued.

Being chronically ill, pets have a very special place in my life.  Spending much more time at home and in bed then the average person, I have had the blessing of spending a lot of time with my pets.   Virtually every time I have felt too bad to get out of bed, my doggie curls up and lays right next to me.  There is something especially relaxing, calming and comforting having a living soul breathing next to you.

The question this week is,  Do you have pets, if so what type and how do they enhance your life?

Welcome friends and thank you very much for stopping by today.  This week my question has to do with physical acitivity.  This is a tough area for many people with chronic illness since there are some that respond poorly to exercise.  No matter what  illness label you hold, fatigue is always a side effect making exercise something that takes a lot will power to overcome the desire to climb back into bed.

We read, watch, and are told that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle which can lead to guilt and disappointment when we cannot participate in the physical activities that we were once able to enjoy.

So, this week’s question is, What physical movement do you participate in? 

Over the years I have been able to do as little as, yay! I walked up and down the stairs today or to the mailbox.  Currently I am able to take my dog on a short walk, walk in the park, get on the treadmill or exercise bike but have discovered that 30 minutes is about my limit or I pay for it the next day.

Please take a moment to share what works for you.  I am sure many of us are looking for new ways to move our bodies.  Thank you!

pitch darkness is a space where you are forced to discover what you are truly made of and how you were created

veils fall off those who surround you, and their souls reveil as they truly are

terror strikes in isolating darkness,  not knowing what or who is around the next corner,  taking each step with a movement of faith, yet questioning where your faith lies

only in true darkness can you see flickers of light, from yourself, or from others in your life

allow that flickering of light, no matter how weak, illuminate your path

you were not meant for the dark, yet only by trudging through the darkness can you truly appreciate the light.

the storm

lightning strike the ground during night time

i stand outside as the storm begins to rage

the thunder rolls in sending animals scattering,

yet i don’t move,

lightening strikes,

shaking the earth under my feet,

my body quakes with fear as the world around me appears to shatter into pieces,

strikes hits too close leaving me cowering in a heap,

 

can i within stand the storm,

can i endure the constant barrage of raging winds and ravishing rains that beat at my body……..

no place to run,

no place to hide,

not only from the storm but from myself.

i am soaked to the bone,

cold to the touch,

immense fear engulfs my mind

is shelter worth searching for,

my soul cries out for comfort,

yet, do i need saving?
