With 2020 just around the corner, I have been thinking about blog posts for next year. One of my goals, besides keeping the Living Our Best Life weekly questions, is to review at least 6 books that are written by an author who is chronically ill.
Not only do I know what it is like to live with multiple chronic illnesses, I also know how much work goes into writing and self-publishing a book and the enormous amount of effort it takes to promote your publications. So next year I would like to help out my fellow spoonies and promote their work.
If you would like me to do a review of your book, that I will purchase, please leave me a message in the comment section. The book does not have to be about illness, but the author must live with at least one chronic ailment.

During the holiday season, we tend to spend time reflecting on upon our past. There is something about the music, the lights, the gathering of friends and family and religous services that can send our minds straight back to when we were a child or those special moments shared with a significant other.
Despite the societal push to buy, buy, buy, when I think about past holidays I rarely remember the gifts, but instead the emotions I felt during the celebrations.
I have always found it much more enjoyable to give gifts and watch a person’s face light up as the package is unwrapped. As the old saying goes, it is much better to give then to receive and I have always believed this to be true.
So my question for all you amazing people this week is, What gift have you given that still makes you smile when you think about it?

In this post I am asking a question for more personal reasons. Due to my multiple chronic illnesses, I unfortunately spend a lot of time watching movies. Even if I am not actually watching movies, I have them playing in the background as I go about my day as I use them as a distraction.
So my question is, What is your favorite holiday movie?

It is that beautiful time of year again when we celebrate Advent, the time we prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of Jesus.
Raising a family of 6 on a budget, I understand the stress that Christmas can create, a time when we feel the need to overdo everything, gifts, parties, meals, decorations…….but all of this costs money and can distract from the real reason of the season.

As we are spending a little more time in the kitchen or thinking of holiday foods that we enjoy, I decided to write about the object in my kitchen that make my life easier.
I have to admit that I do not find much enjoyment from cooking. I am thankful that on my good days I am able to feed my family healthy, mostly well balanced meals, but the smells and bending over and reaching makes me feel worse. Even though I keep all of my frequently used items on the counters, I still feel poorly after preparing food.
To help me get through the whole, preparing a meal ordeal, I daily use my favorite kitchen appliance, putting it to good use. It is my combination DVD/CD/radio that hangs under a kitchen cabinet next to the sink. I received this from my parents who were getting rid of it and it has been one of my favorite gifts ever!
I turn it on every single time I am in the kitchen for more than a couple minutes. I usually have a DVD playing as it does a wonderful job distracting me from pain and discomfort allowing me to stay in the kitchen longer. Today there is a stack of my favorite Christmas DVDs waiting to be watched over the next month.

As the holidays are fast approaching, the subject of food tends to be pushed to the forefront. We start to think about or plan what we would like to eat during the holiday celebrations. Even if we do not celebrate the holidays, the cooler weather, at least here in the North Hemisphere, makes us think about comfort foods.
Being chronically ill, you tend to think a lot about food (or maybe it is just me). Many of us are on special diets and encouraged to suck down endless supplements and medicines while dreaming of being able to eat a gluten and dairy filled pizza (or maybe that is just me too!)
My question for the week is, what food is your go to when you want to eat something that adds a little cheer to your life?

The Holidays, even if you budget for them, have a way of putting a strain on your wallet. While my kids were younger, I worked very hard to make sure they didn’t notice our limited budget by keeping Christmas a fun and active time while remaining focused on the true meaning of this holy season.

Welcome friends and thank you very much for stopping by today. This week my question has to do with physical acitivity. This is a tough area for many people with chronic illness since there are some that respond poorly to exercise. No matter what illness label you hold, fatigue is always a side effect making exercise something that takes a lot will power to overcome the desire to climb back into bed.
We read, watch, and are told that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle which can lead to guilt and disappointment when we cannot participate in the physical activities that we were once able to enjoy.
So, this week’s question is, What physical movement do you participate in?
Over the years I have been able to do as little as, yay! I walked up and down the stairs today or to the mailbox. Currently I am able to take my dog on a short walk, walk in the park, get on the treadmill or exercise bike but have discovered that 30 minutes is about my limit or I pay for it the next day.
Please take a moment to share what works for you. I am sure many of us are looking for new ways to move our bodies. Thank you!

Chronic illnesses tend to have a dreaded side affect of memory issues which can be extremely frustrating.
Through the years, I have experimented with different approaches towards keeping myself organized and on track. The ways have changed as the kids have grown, but I have found that now they are in their busy stage of life, I must keep a very detailed schedule.
At this time, I use my cell phone and a wall calendar to keep track of daily appointments, celebrations, work schedules, really anywhere I need to be and when. Then, I write out my daily to-do list on an index card so I can carry it with me throughout the day (if I don’t forget it, that is 🙂 )
