One Man’s Strange Supernatural Life – a book review

Welcome, I am so happy you are here today!  This is my second of six book reviews that I will be doing this year highlighting authors who live with chronic illness.  My first review can be seen here

I want to make a quick comment as to why I am doing these reviews.  Individuals who live with chronic illness not only struggle physically, mentally, and many also spiritually, but financially.  There is never enough money for all that is required: tests, medicine, supplements, and treatments, and finances add another burden onto an already stressful life.  It is my goal to showcase authors and to hopefully have others go out and purchase these books.

Ryan is a chronically ill warrior who blogs over at Ryan Callahan’s Blog and his book, One Man’s Very Strange Supernatural Life was purchased from Amazon with my own funds.

Upon receiving this book I noticed that is a great size to easily hold in your hand.  I was able to read the print size, and without pictures, there were no distractions from the text.  The cover of the book is pleasant to view with the colors and photo being easy on the eyes and calming.

Ryan’s book is a personal testimony on how and why he became a Christian.  I have to admit, I have read testimonies before and although many of them are profound and encouraging, a run-of-the-mill testimony is not what you will receive when you read Ryan’s book.  He has gone out on a limb and discusses experiences that many people could easily dismiss as crazy.  Ryan’s story drew me in within the first few pages and I did not put the book down until it ended.

His book is a quick and easy read as I was able to finish the story in under an hour and a half.  Ryan left me thinking about all he was willing to share in order to show others his truth.  For me, I was struck by his honesty.  It felt as if he was speaking directly to me and we were having a deep conversation about his faith.  For those of you who are not Christians, you will still find his faith journey compelling and interesting.  This book can purchased from Amazon and read free with KindleUnlimited.

I am also sending my copy of Ryan’s book to a lucky winner here in the United States.  To win this book, please leave a comment regarding your desire to win the book.  A winner will be chosen at random on 3/6/20 and will be shipped via USPS media mail.

living our best life possible – alternative medicine

Photo by PhotoMIX Ltd. on Pexels.com

Welcome back my friends!  Thank you so very much for joining me again for our next question on living our best life possible.

The question this week is………what alternative medical treatment(s) or recommendations, if any, have given you positive results?

A traditional medical path has, up to this point, provided minimal relief from any of my chronic illnesses.  As a result, I have sought out more non-traditional and alternative medical professionals through this very long and winding path towards (hopefully) healing.  But, do to the high cost of alternative medicine, there are many paths that I have yet to explore – but hope to some day.

I have experienced benefits from various supplements, following a grain-free diet, meditation, walking when able, and seeing a medical massage therapist once on month to help with muscle and joint pain.

How about you?  Please share your experiences!

~ Please note – no one on here is providing medical advice, we are only sharing personal experiences that have helped us on our journey.

WP Published Authors – my list

I have finally compiled the list of all the wonderful authors who left a comment on my post, pubished?!.  I would like to thank everyone who listed their work,  and if you would like to be included, please leave your information in the comment section below, thank you.

I would also like to encourage you to take a moment to check out the authors’ offerings below and show some love and encouragement to your fellow WP bloggers.   Some of their books may be able to be checked out at a library if you cannot afford it, and many of the books can be read for free on Amazon through KindleUnlimited .  I am NOT an Amazon affliate, so I am not benefiting from this suggestion, but you can sign up for a free 30-day trial and read all the books you would like and then make sure to cancel your membership before the 30 days.

So without further ado, here are the authors:

There is a simple, no bells or whistles website, THE FRUGAL SOURCE,  that lists links to  publications, blogs and websites, all having to do with saving, investing, retirement, budgeting, minimalism, do-it-yourself and using money wisely.

In my attempt to stretch our budget a bit tighter, I have found many of these sites to be helpful.  May you find something that can bless you too.

I have written a book, under the pen name Charlie, Frugal Seeds 101 Ways to Make, Save or Stretch a Dollar.  I would be honored if you would take a moment to check it out.

get to know me

Thank you so very much Ana from momlifewithchiari for this tag, I am thrilled to be picked by such a dear person that I have come to call friend……and not just because we share a disorder.  Please take a moment to go check out her blog.

The Questions:

1. What does your name mean?

I have always wanted a story to go along with my name, but alas, there is none.  I am not named after anyone or any character, I guess my mom just liked the name and wanted it to be different from the original spelling and replaced the Y with an I.

But, according to the Urban Dictionary, Wendi means friend……….I’ll take that.

Oh my goodness, Yes!

3. What is your best physical feature?

I can smile through most pain and discomfort.

4. What is your favorite Music Genre?

I enjoy most types of music……..classical, 60s-present day, Indie, folk, ethnic, bluegrass, rock, and some heavy metal.

5. Are you a good cook?

I really can’t answer this question as cooking is something that I have never enjoyed doing……….my last post may give you a glimpse into whether or not you would think I am a good cook.

6. What is your favorite Ice-cream flavor?

Sugar is something that I work very hard at staying away from, but, if I had to pick one I would choose So Delicious dairy-free, coconut milk chocolate frozen dessert.

7. Do you have any allergies?

Yes,  lots of them.  Mostly foods and mold.

8. What is your favorite festival?

Pow-Wows.  To find a Pow Wow taking place in your area click this link.

9. Which of your parents do you look like?

Great question, probably a combination of both with some grandparents’ features thrown in.

10. Who is your favorite Musician?

Robert Mirabal

My Nominees:

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS…

THE RULES

2.) Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you

3.) Nominate 11 new blogs to receive this award, and write them 11 new questions

4.) List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Questions for me:

1. If you could pick one person in your life to switch places with so they could feel how you feel for the day, who would it be and why!?

My doctors, if you haven’t experienced it, you can’t truly understand it.

2. When you have people in your life that just can’t seem to understand you and your illness, what have you found to be the best way to explain it to them, so they understand?

I have to be honest, I have been dealing with this so long that I just don’t even try anymore.  I use to, but it never worked.  Then I would get upset at the person for not understanding and s/he trying to compare my issue with the time he broke his arm in the 6th grade.

3. When you have some time just for you, how do you spend that time? Do you enjoy the quiet of being alone or would you rather be with a close friend or family member?

If I am having a good day, I love to walk and think and pray.  Walking is a gift I NEVER take for granted.  I will go off alone but also enjoy the company of my family.

4. What is your all time favorite TV show?

I do not watch TV but do watch Netflix,  Amazon Prime and some shows over the internet, so this is a little difficult for me to answer.  But if I had to pick a TV show it would be The Middle.  There have been a few episodes where I swore they were secretly filming my family.

5. What is your guilty pleasure?

This one is really easy for me……….I love unsweetened green iced tea from Starbucks.

6. What is the most UNBELIEVABLE thing that someone in the medical profession has said to you? And what was your response?

A neurologist told me that maybe I just needed to purchase different under clothing to relieve my symptoms………..I was so absolutely shocked that I looked at her and said……….”seriously?”

7. What is the most annoying thing to you about living with a chronic illness?

That it exists!

8. If you were able to have three wishes what would they be and why?

#1  Cure all ailments in the world – everyone would be healthy!

#2  Clean, pure drinking water everywhere on Earth – water is the source of life

#3 Peace throughout the world – let your imagination run wild of what could be accomplished

9. What is one activity in life that you loved doing, and have had to now give up due to your chronic illness? And do you feel any resentment?

Riding horses…………for years I couldn’t even look at a horse without getting tears in my eyes.

10. What blog have you enjoyed writing the most and why?

The ones I have enjoyed writing the most, and there have been several, are the ones that just flow from my mind to my hands.  Writing has always been a difficult process for me and one I really have to work at.  But if I have to choose one it would be the dock because as I wrote it I felt every single word, an amazing experience.

11. What is the most ridiculous comment that you have ever received on social media or as a comment on your blog?

Since I have no social media other than this blog, I have been blessed to receive only one, weird, not having anything to do with the blog comment.  I am very thankful.

My  Questions:

  1.  What is your favorite thing about blogging awards?
  2.   If you were a sports car which one would you want to be and why?
  3.   If you could only eat one color of food for a week, what color would it be?
  4.   What is your favorite movie line and why?
  5.   If you had to leave your house and take only 10 things with you (excluding all living beings) what would they be?
  6.   Describe yourself in two words.
  7.   What is one sporting activity that you enjoy watching?
  8.   If you could give one piece of advice for all the world to hear what would it be?
  9.   What is your favorite encouraging quote?
  10.   If you had to learn a made up language, which one would you choose and why?
  11.   If you were to learn to play an instrument which one would you choose?
