January 1st, 2018 I decided to make a resolution not to watch any TV news.  I made this resolution half joking, saying it mainly out of frustration of all the depressing stories I heard day after day.  What I discovered after a few weeks was that I felt a bit better.  My anxiety dropped and I spent less time watching TV.   It was a wonderful experience/experiment and one I plan to carry on in 2019 as part of my……..do more of good and and less of the bad activities.

Wishing you a year of more good stuff in your life!

  1. I agree with you 100%, if you read my post today you will understand how TV is blowing my nerves to pieces and I cannot turn it off, it would sure cause a problem in my house and i certainly wouldn’t want that. Happy Days with no TV.

  2. I will support this decision 101%. The news (no matter which media outlet) is designed to make us fearful. It’s plot is to scare us, divide us and deceive us. Take the time you’d spend watching the news and pray, read and study your Bible, spend time with family or do something that brings you happiness.

    Awesome choice Wendi!

    • Ahhh……thank you so very much! You are so right about the news, it was not helping my health in any way, shape or form! Another year without news will be a gift I give myself. Bless you! Wishing you a year with lots of smiles. 🙂

  3. You are so right…100% correct. Too much negative news hurts our souls, it makes all us humans very unhappy. My family and I got rid of cable a few years ago and started streaming channels instead. Now when we watch television which is usually at the end of a day of what I call living, we watch short clips of things on YouTube, or movies on Hulu or Netflix. We are more in control of what we watch and when we watch it. Spending more time out hiking, gardening, helping others, cooking, creating or reading etc…the list keeps going. There is so much more to life then what is being shown to us on those big black flat screens. Live everyday, just live. And living to me is enjoying those tiny things that others may not notice because they are way too busy being told through media to be afraid, to hate, to be paranoid, and to keep on watching instead of living. It takes a whole lot of courage to turn off those screens. You are one of the brave ones. Things will be so much better for you in the New Year.

  4. Good for you Wendi, if more did this you will soon find yourself less anxious.. When we get anxious our muscles tighten and our energy doesn’t flow the same.. We find we hold our breath more which stops our oxygen from flowing.. I came across this YouTube video on Breathing exercise, I am going to learn how to do it by heart, Its 18 minutes long, But I thought if we do it if only for 18 mins a day..https://youtu.be/FWaKkq66DNU Its like a meditation but with breathing and exercise. I thought about you when It came into my inbox as I have followed what he has posted before.

May this year be the start of total recovery!… 🙂 Believe in your self.. For you are the healer.. You have made a great start by cutting out the negative in your home via the media news.. ❤

Much love and many blessings your way Wendi.. ❤ Happy New Earth Year!

  5. Good for you Wendi! We’ve cut down on the amount of news we watch for the same reasons. It’s easy when we watch all the negative news to think that there’s no good left in the world, but that’s far from true. If we take the time to look around us we can see small acts of kindness almost anywhere. Here’s wishing you a new year full of love, laughter, and more blessings than you can count!

  6. Glad you made the choice to unplug from TV and in particular from the news! I’ve been unplugged for quite awhile. It feels odd sometimes when I hear people talk about an accident or certain thing that occurred and I’m not aware of it -but I’m better off not knowing. 😊

  7. An interesting one, and a quick way to cut out a lot of negativity. I wish there were a news channel or paper that was called “Good News”, and contained stories of positivity, nice things people had done, capturing the beauty in the world and the kindness of others. Sadly, such a news outlet doesn’t exist, but it should. Wishing you a brighter 2019 lovely filled with more positive vibes 🙂

  8. I’m with you in abstinence from TV watching. I haven’t watched it for years, except at a friend’s house for a special show. Not only do I avoid the barrage of the negative excitement presented on news programs, but for me, just watching the constantly flickering screen upsets my neurology. I get my news online where there are brief edited highlights, the radio, and reading. I do like to stay informed, but the commercials themselves overwhelm me with aspects of my my dear American culture I find hard to take in. Best wishes for a peaceful new year. JudiB.

  9. Happy New Year to you as well, Wendi. I agree the news can be extremely depressing and, like you, I don’t watch it. Our personal lives can be challenging enough without adding more anxiety into the mix. Have a wonderful year, my friend. Grace 🙂

  10. I get cable when football season starts and then we cut the cord the day after the Super Bowl. Like you, I watch little to no TV News. It has been refreshing. TV News has become angry TV and who wants to be angry all the time? True, some people do. but I’ll take a pass thank you.

Happy to see I’m not alone in this.

  11. I haven’t watched the news and barely any TV for about 4 years now and I am so glad I haven’t. Life can be hard enough without it anyway. Take care and may the Lord bless you. ❤

    • I love reading how many people, like you, have stated that they watch no or little tv. I am thrilled to be in such great company! And, you are absolutely right, life can be hard enough! and tv just added to my stress. Thank you so very much for stopping by Roger and taking the time to comment. God bless you and may 2019 bring you lots of smiles. 🙂

      • I researched all of the conditions that you listed and wish I could be an angel to come over (where ever you are in the world) and heal you but I will pray for you. I have a few minor health problems but my life hasn’t been easy. In the last 3 weeks I have had 2 people threaten my life and my daughter -18 (i have 3, 2 boys who are younger all living with their mum) message me on Christmas day to say that she doesn’t want anything more to do with me. I’m so glad that I have the Lord in my life as He has done amazing thing for me. Take care and may God bless you too Wendi. xxoo

  12. I should premise this comment that I don’t have a TV but haven’t watch news since I left home many moons ago … my father, a war-damaged veteran, was in the habit of watch one stations news after the other eg repeats of the same bad news with very similar shots and content! I read the headlines on line and if anything takes my interest, maybe 3 a week, I read further … it’s much healthier 🙂

  13. I do the same thing. I was making myself sick. People dont understand how I can’t watch, but i simply can’t.
If there is something i need to know my husband tells me, I’m not uninformed, but I’m not caught up in the drama that is the news of today.
